We are happy to announce Jim Slavin as Hudson Valley Community College’s Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, effective Monday, Oct. 9.
Jim has nearly 30 years of experience with teaching, leading, and managing academic and training programs in higher education and the U.S. Air Force. He has served in various roles including master instructor, curriculum manager, training operations manager, senior education specialist, academic coordinator, assistant director, and program director. In his most recent position, he performed as faculty program director (department chair) — business for the School of Business and Technology at Excelsior College, where he led undergraduate and graduate business degree programs, comprising the A.S. in Business, A.A.S. in Administrative/Management Studies, B.S. in Accounting (NYS CPA Track), B.S. in Business (with concentrations), B.P.S. in Business and Management, M.B.A. (with concentrations), and M.S.M. (with concentrations). These accredited programs supported more than 5,200 enrolled students (adult learners) and approximately 130 adjunct faculty around the globe with over 500 online/classroom courses annually.
Jim earned a B.S. with majors in Business Administration and Occupational Education and an M.B.A. with a specialization in Management from Wayland Baptist University. Recently, he completed the Post-Master’s Certificate in Leadership for Higher Education, and he is pursuing a Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Leadership for Higher Education with Capella University. He has taught classroom and online courses in business, computer applications, leadership, management, organizational behavior, professional skills development, and aircraft electrical and environmental systems technologies.
Jim has been married to Patricia for nearly 32 years. They have three children, Joshua, Jason, and Jessica.
